While in the bathroom of my apartment, I noticed some excess water beading on the auto sprinkler head. The sprinkler head looked slightly out of whack, so I wanted to ensure that the water wasn't something other than condensation. I gently touched the metal part (not the sensor part) to feel for air or water leaking, removed my hand, and verified the sprinkler was left undisturbed. After backing up, the sprinkler head activated. I know it doesn't look good, but what should I expect? I believe that putting a nail in the adjacent wall to hang a picture would've had the same effect as what I did. My argument is that the sprinkler head was a ticking time bomb that malfunctioned because it was either installed wrong, or damaged sometimes afterwards. I had reasonable cause to personally examine it because of the poor maintenance record of the property management. We asked them to examine a different sprinkler head in our apartment on a previous occasion due to an unrelated issue and they never sent in a professional nor did they ever have any of them rechecked after initial installation. Will the LLs insurance company claim I'm 100% liable for all damages? Its been a week and an adjuster still hasn't contacted me. Should I allow the adjuster to record any conversations or should I get an attorney first?
