Property management/condo board/board member conflict?

I am a member of a condominium board of trustees. We presently have a property management company. One of our board members, who is an off-site investor owner, is asking the rest of the board to consider switching the management duties to the company that he/she is part-owner of. I see this as a major conflict of interest. My position is that the property management company should have no affiliation with any owner (single unit or investor), and it would seem to complicate matters more if the part-owner of the management company is also a board member. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

If it is a conflict of interest, it's probably the sort of conflict the members are entitled to consent to. Having a conflict is not per se a bad thing. What is improper is keeping it secret, or profiting from it without the consent of the others. The conflict might prevent him from voting on a resolution to make the switch, but if he can make a good business case why the association should switch to his management company, so be it.
