Protecting / Registering Desktop Icon Rights: Similar to Registering TM?

Does an organization have to go through the typical "registration of trademark" protocol to register their corresponding company desktop icon?

If not, then what are the steps to gaining the rights of the brand/logo's corresponding icon?

Thanks very much in advance!

That's a question best posed to your corporate legal team, or law firm on retainer.

Seeking free legal advice regarding complex legal matters, is akin to pursuing one of dozens of internet cures for any number of dreaded and/or deadly human afflictions.

The US Patent and Trademark Office has all the information about trademark that you'll ever need.

One registers trademarks (assuming one wants the benefits that go along with registration). That a trademark is also used as a "desktop icon" doesn't change that.

A trademark is established by the use of the mark in commerce. No registration is required, but registration does provide some added benefits to the holder. Note that the specific design of the icon itself is also protected under copyright law so making use of that icon image may subject the person to liability for infringing on the copyright holder's rights.

For the icon images you put on your post, you'd need to buy the rights to it from the trademark/copyright holders or purchase a license to use the icons.

If you were thinking that registration of the marks would give you the sole rights to them in order to get a big payoff from those companies to get those rights back, that isn't going to work. It'll just cost you lot of money in making the effort.

Thank you. Those listed icons were just for reference. I have rights to own TM (both words and words plus design/logo), but am currently designing a desktop icon with the same colors using part of the design. I'm just wondering if I should do a separate TM filing for this...?

Determining whether you should do that would require review of the "words and words plus design/logo," the evidence that supports your claim to those rights, and the icon design. If you want to do this right, you should engage the services of a local attorney who understands trademark law.
