My plant manager is e-mailing me telling me not to follow company policies,For instance one person got paid for missing a day becase there aunt is a manager there, even though several others did not .He sent me a e-mail to approve a weeks vacation for the next week with a 2 day notice as the manager was having a family get together,When people get written up he keeps the write ups in his desk and only if they insist on a copy does it go to HR.He then at the end of the year uses these write ups to lower there raise. He lets the other manager use on the clock employees for his floor cleaning contract for our factory. After cutting all overtime 3 people were still getting it and when I asked I was told they have a special arrangement.I fell bad as I am a honest person and I think policies should be for every one. What is your advice on this please as since I asked him his attitude towards me has turned hostile. And that was just about the vacation an day off paid incident

If I was your boss and him your manager would you want me to stand up for you?If it isn`t favoritism is it discrimination? Because everyone who gets favors are related to a manager.

Not all discimination is illegal! Unless the action was because you belong to a "protected class" this is not what law describes as discrimination

It's unfair, but jacksgirl is correct. "Discrimination" on the basis of not being related to the boss, is not illegal discrimination.

Ideally, yes, policies should be the same for everyone. But nothing in the law prohibits a boss from giving special privileges to family members, fair or not.
