I am asking on behalf of my sister. She was given a citation for Public intoxication in Lubbock, TX a few months ago. She was never arrested. Instead they had a friend sign a paper stating that she would take care of my sister and get her home safely. She has court in a few days and has no clue on what to do. After researching it myself, it appears that maybe she could get deferred adjudication if she pleas no contest or guilty. Is that correct? She admits to the guilt, but would like any way possible to get it off her record. What is the best scenario for that? Does she need legal representation? My mother cannot really afford it, so they were just going to plead guilty and move on. Please help because she is only 18 and really scared on approaching the judge and not knowing what to say.
