My girlfriend who does not have a drivers license, was parked at a store in Scottdale Pa on Memorial Day. She came out of the store and got in her vehicle which had a unlegal license plate but looked totally legal, the sticker on the plate was up to date and to the naked eye the car looked legal. When she got in the vehicle she saw a police car sitting in an alley about 50 yards away, so she pulled out and did not speed or run a stop sign or anything illegal. After she exited the parking lot and was going down the street for a few hundred yards the police pulled out sped up behind her and pulled her over about 300 yards outside the city limits. The cop gave her fines for no license, no insurance, bad plate, and driving on an suspended plate. When the police officer came up to the vehicle he never said why he pulled her over and it came over his radio at that moment that the plate was bad. My question is Can he pull her over for no reason? When she asked him why he pulled her over he said that she looked at him suspiciously. I think everyone looks at a cop that way even if they have nothing to hide. I mean ok she was illegal but that still doesnt give him the right to just pull her over to see if she was legal. I mean hundreds of cars probably pass him everyday and look at him wrong but he doesnt pull all of them over so why did he choose her? Does police go around running every person he sees plate everyday? I think not. Also he gave her no citation for anything she did wrong , not even a warning for for anything, just fines for what he discovered after he pulled her over. Please answer my question for me and let me know if we need a lawyer to win this in district court. Thank you Dennis Stewart

you failed to mention what kind of car she was driving...my son has a little sports car registered in both our names, questionable tags at times....thats true. Drives within the speed limits, just minds his own business...(ex military even) and boy do they like to bust his chops.........every time. He even got a ticket for not appearing in court while he was in basic training. The (illegal) tags will get u every time. All they have to do is run your plate. I have paid many a fines because of this...my name is also on the title. As a matter of fact, I got pulled over the other day because my daytime running lite was out.......and was given a dui test even tho i was on my way home from work at 4 in the afternoon and hadnt had a drop to drink.....i was set on my way....but they are just looking for the income the ticket will bring. I truly believe that. The real criminals are set free but us little people pay the price. Thats what checkpoints are for. My opinion is to just pay the fines.........and get on with life unless its gonna hurt her driving record and send her insurance costs sky high. Otherwise it might be better to just pay the lawyer. Which is cheaper? Thats how life is for us.....Hope this helps a little. JO

In my opinion they should have locked her up and impounded the vehicle. Here they have a new computer program that can automatically scan plates. They can drive thru a parking lot and automatically check all the vehicles. No court is going to throw this out.
