Justthe other day i went to get my car smogged and everything went well all except the wrong Cadillac converter was said to be put in the vehicle so it failed and i still had to pay for the smog.Is the dealership at fault?

When did you buy the car and how old is the car?

If it was a recent purchase you may be able to return to the dealer for repair. The seller is responsible for obtaining the smog certificate. The dealer does not have to obtain a smog certification or renew registration while a vehicle is on the lot, but the smog certification must be provided at the time of sale. Vehicle Code 24007(b)(1)

If this is not a recent purchase you are likely out of luck as the argument will be made that you have since modified the car on your own.

Have you spoken with the dealership about the problem?

CA law requires the dealer to provide a smog cert with the sale within certain parameters. They are responsible for the costs to make it compliant.
