I was caught stealing $8 worth of food from my local grocery store. It was my first and only offense and I paid my fine. Security told me that I was banned from the store and if I ever set foot on the premises again I would be arrested. So my question is: the grocery store is part of a huge chain, so does this mean I am banned from ALL of its stores or just the specific store that I stole from?

You should have been told that at time of ban. However in most bans of chain stores the ban goes for all stores and any sister companies they may be part of. Example one major retailer also owns a club store and if banned from one your banned from both. To be safe I would suggest you not go in any of that retailers stores

I do grocery store security. When we ban you from one, we ban you from all, and e-mail your picture to other stores.

+1 to Store Detective Vet - grocery stores have roving security who travel from location to location. You risk them spotting you again. They have good memories, plus state of the art digital CCTV surveillance. Let's say that you go into a store, pay for your things and walk out. No one confronts you. It just so happens that the transaction in front of you involved a stolen credit card. A review of the CCTV shows you in the store - you get an instant trespass charge.

There are plenty of grocery stores to shop at.
