Ok here it goes. I had work done to a vehicle for a quoted price by phone. I had the work done. I paid part of the quoted bill in cash when I picked it up. 4 months later I received a build sheet not a bill for $1800.00 over the quoted price. Nothing was ever discussed with me on the increase in price. Now he is threatning a lean on my vehicle or a collection agency. What are my options? Can anyone help me with advice? Does he have a case since he released the vehicle to me and I never received and actual invoice.

If he puts a mechanic's lien on your vehicle he has a certain number of days to sue. He will have to prove that you owe him. I would hope you have some receipt for the money you paid him but the fact that he released the car to you is pretty good evidence. I would not worry about the lien or the collection agency. If he files a lien and sues, go to court with your story and any evidence you have. If he sends it to a collection agency send them a simple letter stating that you have paid him in full and owe him nothing.

Eventually he has to sue and lose or go away.

Does he need the vehicle vin# to file a lein? He does not have that. He does not even have my home number.
