I ordered a trial of an item that never came. UPS Says they had a signature but it turns out not to be mine and i signed a form stating so in person and gave my signature as proof. UPS denied the insurance claim that the shipper filed now the shipper wants me to pay for something i never received and the shipper says this to me

"However, we are out a fairly expensive piece of equipment and will be pursuing it in any way that we can. This may involve the local authorities and/or courts. I regret that you will be involved in the investigation if it goes that far. This has the potential to be a long and drawn-out process, and could cost us all a lot of time, energy and resources (even if we do get satisfactory resolution). "

Can they do anything ? What are my rights and what may happen? They were very nice and i gave them everything requested but now that they found out UPS is unwilling to pay them any insurance claim they are after me.

Stop communicating with them.
Let them do as they wish.
If you had no hand in this, you've nothing to fear.
On the other hand, if you did, the truth will be discovered.
Either way, stop talking.
There could be fraud, theft, or related charges in someone's future.
