Questions about custody agreements....

Hello, Im a single Mom to a toddler. I have an appt on Monday to start the child custody process. I have a few questions.

1. Is it possible to ask that ONLY my ex picks up/drops off our child when it comes to visitation in the custody agreement?

2. If we cant come to an agreement and go before a judge, do they look at backgrounds of ALL adults living in the households or just the childs parents? For example.... I live with my parents and he lives with his parents. Will our parents be part of a background/criminal check?

3. Do custody agreements have to include summer vacation time or is that optional?

4. How would this be handled? My ex is supposed to pick up our child at 6PM on a Fri but he doesnt get home from work til 8 or 8:30PM. The childs bedtime is 8:30/9PM. Would I keep the child up til Dad gets here or would Dad wait til morning to pick him up?

This is all new to me. Im stressed out worrying how all this will go. Thanks for your help.

If you can justify it, it can be ordered.

They don't even look at the parents' background to any great extent unless there's something incredibly worrisome present.

3. Do custody agreements have to include summer vacation time or is that optional?

Yes, both parents will be entitled to vacation time ("down time") with the child.

You would keep the child ready until Dad gets there.

Here's how it's going to work

You get to do what whatever the heck you want during your parenting time (within reason of course - no boiling the child, leaving the child with the local pedophile, that sort of thing). Dad gets to do the exact same thing.

Pick up time is the earliest that Dad can pick up the child - it's not an absolute. Assuming you'll be the primary custodial parent, your obligation is to have the child available. Dad isn't, however, obliged to actually utilize his visitation.
