Hi.

I am 18 years old living with my mom. I pay rent to her and she pays rent to the land lord. My question is, do I legally have to pay rent? And does my mom have the power to evict me even though I pay rent too?

What state are you in? At 18 you are considered an adult in most states. She sure is strict in charging you rent but it is probably not illegal. If you stop paying she could eventually evict you. Do you have another parent or someone else you can stay with? A parent charging a child rent at 18 is not very common but it does happen. How muchis she charging you? If it is a reasonable amount you might have to suck it up. If she is collecting child support for you she should not be charging you rent.

MOVE OUT and get your own place, your 18 now - I think depending on how much she is charging you this is a good thing-- Nothing is free in life and it is teaching you that you have to pay to live and you need to work to pay -

There is an old axiom ... if you do not like mom's rules, move out.

Unless you are a signer on the lease agreement, you may well be considered a guest under the law and mom may well be able to just tell you to get out. What obligations she has will depend on your state, and whether or not you are still her dependent (i.e. still in high school, a tax deduction for her taxes, etc.). But, the bottom line is that unless you signed the lease as an adult, you can probably be put out on your own.
