I was arrested for shoplifting. The stuff I had came out to $38. I went to the police station and was fingerprinted but didn't spend any time in jail. I have a court date and I am wondering what to expect. Is there a chance that I will go to jail then? This was my first offence and i have nothing else on my record. Im just wondering what I could expect

It would help if we knew the state. However first offense shoplifting rarely carries any jail time (depending on state). Start calling Lawyers many offer free consultations get as many as you can. Ask each if Diversion is option in your case

I also probably should mention that the officer that did my fingerprints said I should go ahead and enter a plea agreement and say "no contest" he told me that it would reduce my fines and also probably drop the charges, I'm not sure if this is true. He seemed really nice and wanting to do what he could to help me out. I am living in a different state and was arrested in fl. I am also Military and he is retired Military so he seemed sincere. He made it sound like I just had to walk into the court and go with saying no contest and that would drop some charges not show up on my record and reduce the cash I'd have to shell out. I'd still like to just be sure

I would still get a lawyer, either a public defender or private counsel. You are facing criminal charges and they are the experts who can help minimize the effects this has on you. Have you told your commanding officer?

I know that I can't get any for sure answers. I would like to know if theres any chance that this could get dropped in court or that it won't go on my record and that I won't end up going to jail
