reason for eviction

In the state of california is it legal to evict a tenant without giving written reason? The management company used civil code 1946 as reason to not state however, i can not find any thing in the civil code that talks about that. If you have been given a notice are you obligated to pay the rent for the sixty days you have until you must move out?
