I have a Question regarding References. My girlfriend and I have lived in a apt. for a year. We have had problems getting along, Fighting verbal fight mainly. the police were call a couple of times once each by myself and her. The landlord of the property, told us that they were not renewing our lease and we had 2 weeks to move. My ? is can they give bad references, there by keeping anyone from renting to us. Or is their any law in Nebraska or the City of Omaha, protecting us so wecan rent somewhere? Thank You for any help in advance.

No, there is no law prohibiting the landlord from telling the truth about what kind of tenants you were.

The best way to avoid bad references is not to earn them.

Renting is such a double standard. :(

I wish to rent property landlords had to provide references and credit reports to prospective renters. This would curtail the number of fraudulent landlords from making tenants lives hell simply because it pleases them. Or if still moved into a place with substandard references at least you'd have a better idea of what to expect.

Unfortunately no law can stop some landlords from lying either. :o
