I was going through a rough year at my school and had to file a grievance. The school board agreed with my grievance and anything negative against me was pulled out. I was offered a contract and decided not to come back. I was interviewed and offered a job based on references. My new boss called the district and the assistant superintendent said she would not hire me back. Can she legally say this when I was offered a job but chose to leave.

This usually the questions they ask : 1. Did so and as work there? 2. What dates? 3. Would you hire so and so again? If the reply they would not hire so and so again, the perspective employer usually stops asking questions. They may tell the candidate that the previous employer said they would not hire again to see if the candidate can clarify.

Those three questions are all legal.
