 I have just recently got a new job, my last job hired me no problems, but now where im working they are refusing to pay me and the manager has said that i will get sacked if i haven't sorted things out in 2 week. The problem is my birth certificate is in a different name to what i'm known as now. My national insurance number is in my new name as well as bank accounts and all other documents. I have provided all of these like asked to do so but now they are refusing to sack me unless i change my name back within 2 week, as well as refusing to pay until this has happened she also said that at head office i have been put down as an illegal immigrant due to me not been able to provide a birth certificate in my new name. Also, the manager has been telling other people that they will be hiring at the end of the week as i will be fired. Can they do this? And are they allowed to not pay me for work i have done?

From the language you use I suspect that you are either in Canada or the UK - can you confirm? It makes a difference to the answer.

I thought as much. A couple of the words you use tend to be British English rather than American English. I'm Canadian and speak both. ;)

Unfortunately, this is primarily a US site and I don't think any of the regulars here know anything about UK law, which tends to be quite different from US law. There's a similar site to this for UK members, or so I have been told, where you might get an answer more easily. It's something on the order of personneltoday.com. If you don't get a response here, you might want to give them a try.

Good luck to you.
