I got caught shoplifting. No police was involved. The LP officer told me that it will be handle inhouse only and let me go after taking pictures and gather my id. I was told to wait for the letter from the coperate for a civil fine. Do you think I will not be getting an arrest later if I pay the fee and stay out of the store for 2 year as I was instructed to? I feel so scared and do regret for what I did. Please help!!

If you pay what they demand there will be nothing further. Be sure you understand the consequences before agreeing to pay. It would not hurt to take the letter to an attorney for some advice before you part with your money.

Agree with shrinkmaster. I would pay the civil demand & you shouldn't have anything further to worry about.

Nothing to worry about except the potentially life changing consequences of landing on a theft database and having employment and background issues for years to come.
Paying the demand will keep you out of criminal court but it still carries unexpected consequences. All they want is your money. They don't care about your future. Look out for yourself and get real legal advice before you pay anything. You have no obligation to pay anything at all unless a court orders it. The demand letter has no legal weight whatsoever.

I believe shrinkmaster (I know I was) was talking about nothing to worry about re being arrested or going to court which seemed to be OP's question/concern. There is nothing though to keep the OP from talking to an attorney before doing anything.

Talking to an attorney & not paying the civil demand doesn't necessarily mean OP isn't going to end up on a theft database or have employment/background check problems.

Being input into a retail theft database is not as bad as MM would have you think. First not all retailers use these databases so if the store OP stole from is not a subscriber he/she is not in database. Second, as stated not all retailers use these databases so even if OP I sin database long as he/she does not seek employment from another subscriber its a non issue. Third only retailers basically use these databases so if OP seeks employment outside of retail no problem
