Hello, This is my first time on these boards. I have an issue that I would like advice on I'm not sure if I have any standing to do anything. Thank You in advance

I Worked at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for 4 years and during those 4 years I was a exceptional employee, I was always there when my manager needed me and I hardly missed a day in my last 2 year they even promoted me to 3rd key and gave me responsibility of opening and closing the store and again I was a great employee no complaints about me never any money issues. In October of this year I quit after giving them a month notice because my school schedule just got to rough for me and I had to leave my job. But like I said I gave a month notice for them to find a replacement for me and since I parted on good terms I even talked with my manager about returning in the summer maybe but not as a key.

The end of the spring school semester came and I contacted my old boss and she was more then happy to have me return for the summer we even made up my schedule. First she had to run this by her boss the supervisor of the stores Joe. Days later much to my surprise my boss calls me to tell me that Joe said no and the reason was this "Based on the previous track record of rehiring people we are not gonna go that way anymore, the other people didnt work out" I would like to point out that these other people were recovering drug addicts and alcoholics that's just a fact because I worked with them AND these people were previously fired before they were rehired or stopped showing up.

But I am not like those guys I was a college student that faithfully worked for the company for 4 years surly they can see how I shouldn't be put with them.

But they couldn't, I decided to call Joe myself to try to get him to change his mind, I politely left 2 messages and he finally got back to me

He told me on the phone "Don't think this has anything to do with your job performance it doesn't I know you were a good worker it's the previous track record we have with rehiring people at your store they didn't work out" I responded by saying that I should be an exception because my track record but he didn't want to hear it and told me that it's not him but his boss Jenny who made the rule- Jenny who at that time was on sick leave with cancer. I asked Joe if I should try to contact her anyways and he didn't give me an answer so I thanked him for his time and hung up.

A few days later the whole thing wasn't sitting right with me I talked to my former boss who told me there is no policy about not rehiring and in fact we just rehired somebody nearly a year ago. As a poor college student my funds were fading fast while I was applying to other jobs I was still in contact with my boss. A day later she told me that Joe "got mad" because I was "going to go over his head" in trying to reach Jenny. And my boss said I should just forget about it.

I did try to reach Jenny I only left her 2 messages because I didn't want to bother her

I also left Joe 2 messages about how I would like to talk about this to him some more

Neither of them returned my calls

I left a third message to Joe saying that I feel Salvation Army is discriminating against me because I'm a rehire and that I feel if maybe this is a violation of EOE and how I am upset that this company would treat me this way after I served them for 4 years

He never called me back. But I was told by my former asst. manager "Joe wants you to stop calling him!" My former boss told me "This is between you two I can't get involved"

I'm starting to feel as if this is some personal thing with Joe and I don't understand why? I never did anything to Joe and I was a great employee. I feel as if he thinks this is some game and that he won't let me win but really I just need a job pretty badly

I haven't called Joe in 2 weeks now and just today my asst. manger told me that there was a mangers meeting and Joe told me former Boss that I "have to stop calling or I'm going to get the police involved for harassment"

But I haven't called him in two weeks!!!!!

Please! what can I do if anything ?? I feel like I'm being treated unjustly

Thank you so much and I am sorry if this was long

Thanks again.

They have decided NOT to rehire you.

That is their decision, just as it was yours to resign.

You were asked to STOP calling their business.

You would be WISE to STOP calling them.

Why make trouble for yourself?

This party is over.

There is nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that you can do about this, but let it go!

There are other employers that have jobs available.

Why not look for employment at another company?
