I am a manager for a retailer. My employer recently asked me to move to another city to run a higher volume store. I was offered $10,000 more a year to take the position as well as relocation assistance. My wife is pregnant and due in Feb. My employer knew about this. They want me to sell my house first before moving, and it has been put on the market. When accepting the position I told them that if the house didn't sell or they didn't move me before it sold and it got close to the due date that the move would have to wait until after the baby was born and they seemed ok with that. Now they are telling me that if they can't move me between Thanksgiving and Christmas(because the CEO wants my house to sell before moving me) that they may have to go in a different direction with someone else. I don't feel they are giving me a reasonable amount of time to sell my home and that my wife's pregnancy is now playing a role on whether I get a higher paying position. Any thoughts on this?

It doesn't sound to me as if they are talking about withdrawing the offer because your wife is pregnant. It sounds to me as if they are talking about withdrawing the offer because they need someone managing the store during the busiest season of the year and you are either unable or unwilling to do so.

Nothing whatsoever illegal or discriminatory about that.

It has nothing to do with my not being available. I have told them I'll move whenever they want me to. They knew when they made the offer I had a house to sell. It is their insistance, not mine, that the house sell before moving me.
