Recently I decided to move in with my boyfriend. He already has an apt of his own, so I applied to live at his place. Usually it does not take that long to get approved for an apartment, but this time it took us almost 2 weeks, and the problem is still not solved.
My bf's rental manager uses a third party to process my app (i.e. do a background check, etc) and for some reason they could not get a hold of my landlord to verify my current rental history. At first we thought since it was the 4th of July weekend, people may not have been working. Then we kept waiting, and I was told that I was denied for residence by my bf's landlord because they could not verify my current rental history (my landlord had not responded to the request. ) So we kept waiting. It became almost 2 weeks, today I went to my landlord's office and discovered that there was no request that came in regarding verification of my residence from my bf's rental office.
The only way for me to get approved is for my landlord to verify that I actually live at my current place. But it didn't seem possible to me that almost 2 weeks went by, and still no response. I mean, there are more than one property manager at the office, so if they actually gotten a fax they would've responded within a day, right?
I think that my bf's property manager bluffed and did not actually made a request for verification. I figured they are still a rental business, so documentation is important. Therefore, if they wanted to verify anything, they would fax it or send a letter, rather than through a telephone call. (My boyfriend tells me that they have been calling my landlord and not getting a response).
Is this a possible legal problem? If so, what are the ramifications? Is it possible to wait this long just to live in an apartment? Something's not right--where do you think the problem is?
