Responsible for Mother's bills after death?

My 70 year old mother just moved in with me here in Pineville, N.C. She has a considerable amount of debt in her name. I was wondering if in the event of her death, I or any of my brothers can be held accountable for this debt and forced to pay it off.

Unless you have signed as a responsible party you will not be responsible for any of her debts.
