Restraining order, what to do?

I had a restraing order granted against me 5 years ago, mainly because I was new in the country and had no idea how to properly defend myself. I have since moved to another state, and have really forgotten about it, it hasnt affected my life in anyway, until now. I am applying for a pistol permit, on the application, there is a question have you ever had a restraining order put against you? Obviously I have. Does that mean my permit will be denied? How would I go about removing the order?

If the restraining order is still active, they will likely have to turn you down for a firearm.

How you can remove or check on the status depends on the laws in the state where the order was issued.
