I was arrested for stealing an item for 199.00 from home depot in Florida, and got booked in jail, and was released on unsupporvised ROR after about 4 hours, and was charged with a misdemeanor for retail theft, I am 23 and haven't been arrested over the age of 18, once when I was 9 but got it exsponged, and need to know step by step what exactly is going to happen, bc im pretty strapped on money as of right now obviously... What should I be doing until I find out my court date, and just any and all information about this and what is most likely to come would be beyond appreciated... Please help! Thank you in advance-

Being "strapped" for money should not stop you from consulting Attorneys. Many offer free consultations get as many as you can. If you still cannot afford one you will have knowledge from these office visits that you can take to Public Defender. It would be unwise to try to do this without legal help so you should request a Public defender on your court date. When you meet with the Attorneys (free consultations) ask them if Diversion is available in your case

ok, after doing this, is there any heads up you could possibly give me as what to expect if I get a diversion program, and possibility of fines/jail?

The Attorneys are best qualified to tell you this but jail is not likely on the table

The Public defender fee varies depending on your income. Your fines should be less than $500.00 for the theft. there may be some cost if your asked to take any class as well. No one has said it but you should also be aware there is a civil fine that will come in the mail that one could be near $500.00

First things first, take a deep breath. Second, get out a phone book and look at attorney's, lawyers or legal help. Third, make phone calls on Monday during normal business hours to set up consultations.
