Lets just say i know this person named jack..
Jack was at home one night and a friend got in some car trouble early in the AM around 4am. The friend appeared to be on drugs and made an attempt on Jack's life by trying to slit his throat. Jack broke free and ran out of "his owned home" to a neighbors and called 911. The police came and "jack" gave permission for the cops to go in the house to make sure his home was safe while jack was transported to the hospital. when the cops went into the house they noticed that there were about 1000 professionally boot-legged dvd's all packaged up, in a room with 4 computers and a wall of printers. The cops called the local feds. the feds came with a warrant to search the house for the dvd's. during the search they confiscated all of the computers from the room. also went through the house and took 3 laptops any cell phones, dvd players, several play station 2's, and dvd bootlegged or not wallets, purses a tivo. then when searching the basement they found 5 ounces of cocaine (noted in the warrant as white powder) and $5000 in cash. They loaded up 3 DEA vans full of everything in the house that plugged into a wall. They even took his digital blender and coffee machine. After that they went into the trunk of his car and took his apple G4 17 laptop.
While Jack was in the hospital he was notified that the feds were searching his house with a warrant. The local state police had Jack write out a statement to testify against the kid who had slit his throat with a knife.
Jack left the hospital and went to a hotel for the evening. went to his house the following morning to find it destroyed with everything he owned gone, along with the detailed warrant on the kitchen table. Jack moved to south Carolina for 2 years. he then moved back to his original city that he had lived in during the police raid and got his life back together working a good job, bought a new house and got married living a life totally free of crime.
Jack was never contacted by the police, never charged with anything never heard another thing about it for 4-5 years.
Can "jack" receive any of the items that were confiscated on that day back from lockup? (he really misses his G4 laptop) I know him well...
Is there a statute of limitations on when they can charge him or indite him?
And can any of the stuff be returned to jack?
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can send jack in the right direction to getting his stuff back. all of the items taken not including the cash is valued at well over $20,000 dollars.
Thank You!!
