do i have the right to discuss my hourly rate with fellow employee's?i did and was told this created an unsafe work enviroment and i will have my hourly rate reduced and i could not discuss this conversation with any other employee i feel like my freedom of speach has been violated.

Your right to freedom of speech is not an issue here, as the first amendment says the GOVERNMENT cannot restrict your speech. It doesn't say anything about your employer.

However, your right to discuss the terms of your employment, including your compensation, is protected under the National Labor Relations Act. Contact the NLRB for additional information.

The remedy depends on the state you live in. In some state the NLRA has little or nothing to do with state labor laws. States that are not "right to work states" offer a dirrect route to the state court house with common law remedies, without having to file with the board. The board offers reinstatement with back pay. Many states offer more through the courts. Contact an attorney that practices labor law. Preferably one that has unions as clients.

In 1947, the U.S. Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Amendments to the NLRA, which guaranteed for both employers and employees the right of free speech. So when you discuss wages you are protected since discussions of all terms and conditions of employment is free speech.
