rights in keeping a child safe from the other parent

Hi, I am trying to find out what my legal rights are when it comes to protecting my son and myself when my son's father has threatened to kidnap my son and has publicly made death threats to me. What are my options in refusing to allow my son to see his dad? Do I have any grounds to have his dads parental rights terminated? I have not done anything as of yet with the threats except document each one because I have no idea where to begin.
