My mother recently passed away and lived in Ohio. I am her daughter who resides in North Carolina. Anyways, before she passed she said that i could have anything of hers. I would be her next of kin since the man that she lived with (her boyfriend) were not married. He however says that it is his house and i am not getting anything of hers. He is throwing it all away. I am wondering if i have any legal ways of getting her stuff and her ash's. He paid for the urn, but do i still have any rights to anything?

Her verbal pronouncement means nothing. Your Mother died intestate (without a will) and if you are the only heir her stuff will pass to you. Now enforcing that can be a bit touchy. You will need to engage an attorney. If the bf doesn't fight you should be ok and it won't cost much. But that is what you are going to have to do.
