I share joint custody of my 2 children (ages 9 and 12) with my ex here in Oregon. I have the kids 75% of the time and my dtr has a chronic healthcare condition. After single-parenting for 7 years, I am exhausted without family support and I would like to move back to the east coast to be near my 5 siblings so that my children and I can have their support. I am an RN and am certain that I can obtain a good job back in New England. My ex will not agree to the move. I am happy to acommodate him with whatever travel/summer/etc parenting arrangement he would like, but I need to know what my rights are and what the best plan of action would be. Thanks so much, K.

I can't say. This would seem to be up to the court. From my understanding they are usually not keen on allowing a parent to remove the children from the state, especially when you're talking about a 5 hour plane ride and depriving your ex of his custody rights, which this arrangement would seem to effectively accomplish. What does "accommodate" mean? Will you pay for flights? How will the joint custody aspect work? This is something you will probably need to work out with your ex.
