Room-mate problems

I moved in with a friend to take over an apartment when her roommate left and my friend was stuck with the cost of the apartment. I didn't sign a lease and I doubt that the landlord even knew I was living there. Problems soon developed and after finding eviction notices (the cash payments I was making to the roommate were not being applied to the rent) I decided to leave. When I left I asked for copies of the three months (December 5-February 28) utility bills that I had never seen copies of and had never paid because she had never said anything to me about them. She has given me a number but will not give me copies of the bills. Given that I saw a copy of a past due bill from before I moved in I do not trust her and feel she is trying to stick me with bills from before I lived there. She will not give me copies of these bills and keeps threatening to take me to small claims court to obtain payment. I will gladly pay MY SHARE only of these bills, but I want to see hard copies to be sure that she is not overcharging me for past due fees and the time that I was not living there. She has started harassing me now over the phone, even contacting my employer and I am not sure what to do. Given that we never signed a lease or even established a formal agreement about utilities is there anything that she can do? She is harassing me and I am not if I can do anything, what are my options if I have any? Any help would be much appreciated.

She must show the basis for her small claims suit.

You can either contest it or pay it.
