I was originally on a lease for a year at my current residence. After that it went to month to month. It has been month to month for two months, so the total time I have lived there is 14 months. From what I understand, I should receive a 60 day notice. My landlord gave me a 30 day notice.
She said the reason she could do this is because my roommate gave her 30 day notice. I told my landlord that I intended to stay another two months and she told me she didn't have to give me a 60 day notice because of my roommate saying she was leaving.
I think I should still receive a 60 day notice because I said I intended on staying even though my roommate was leaving. Shouldn't I still be protected under Rights for Renters. My reasoning is that if we were on a year lease and my roommate ditched out before that amount of time, then I would still be liable for her end of the lease. Because we both signed it. We are both separate entities making our own decisions.
Any advice out there?
