Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Roommate

I was rent ing a room in my house to a 39 year old man. he was here about 21/2 months. He got into some trouble and snuck out of here on Monday April 3, 2007 When he left I was taking a bath. I had $400.00 in my house which is now gone. I know he took it. I filed a police report.
My question is What are the chances of getting the monwy back? Do I have a chance?

Your chances of getting your money back are probably slim but the police probably told you that. It's possible the police may catch him but getting back your money is another challenge... I'm sorry to hear about your problem.

Unless he admits to stealing the money, your chances of getting the money back are slim. Even if the police believe he stole it, and even if he was the only one you believe had the opportunity to steal it, the fact of the matter is the DA will have to overcome the very real (if improbable) possibility that someone ELSE stole it ... and, the possibility that you never had the money, are mistaken about the money (maybe you lost it), or are simply lying.

In any event, the chances of proving the theft by this former roomie are slim.
