I visited a doctor twice, I informed them that my insurance would cover the $25 copay because I was double covered. They aknowledged that they were aware of this practice. They did not bill my insurance accordingly and went to a collection agency. I called my ins. and they proccessed the payment and told me that the doctor had not attempted to bill as double covered.
I left a message with the doctor giving them the reference # they did not return my call. I called the collection agent to inform him of my dispute and give him the reference # of the payment. The agent refused to believe me and became belligerant. I repeated that I had a ref. # from the ins. company, but he refused to accept it and continued to insult me and threaten to damage my credit and he hung up on me. After which he sent me a follow up letter still claiming I owe the balance with an itemized bill adding collection fees and interest. Should I still send a dispute letter or is there something else I should send?
Thank you.

Collection agency(s) are only interested in one thing, and.......That is COLLECTING money any way they can.
I would write a letter to the Dr. (office) sent certified mail. I would explain the problem and give them your reffrence #. I would expect this should have some impact, and hopful resolve. If not then I would suggest that you get a coppy of your credit report and file a dispute as to the accuracy of that debt. At the same time I would file a complaint with the fedral trade commision against that collection agency........
Good luck.
