am writing you in regards to possible unfair/illegal employment practices at Alaska Travel Adventures in Juneau, Alaska. I am contacting you to question the practices of this company and in hopes to speak with you about possible legal action against them.
My partner, James Reiber, went up to Juneau under the assumption that he would be working as a river guide. He was told he would receive training to raft down a route the entire summer (4 months). However, upon his arrival, he was told that was a mistake, even though he received multiple information packets with essential materials to buy as a raft guide for their company. He is paying $375 a month to sleep in the living room of a trailer with 5 other employees, which is automatically deducted from his paycheck. He arrived yesterday, and since the news of ATA's actions, I am pursuing legal advice and possible action, for my partner as well as the questional practices all employees are treated under.
ATA is putting their employees in a very dependent and vulnerable situation. As an Oregon resident I am not familiar with seasonal employment laws in Alaska, but I question the legality of ATA's practices.
I look forward to hearing your feedback and advice and legal routes to take.
