Please help. My son was driving my car and was stopped for no sticker. They said they also wanted to search the car because he had tools in the car and because there have been alot of robberies. He consented to a search and they found pot in the glove box. Then they came back to my house and searched my house and this has snowballed into a real mess. My question is, because he was stopped for a no sticker on the windshield, did they have a right to search because he had tools in the car? Wasn't this a violations of his rights and now mine as they ended up searching my house too?

Unfortunately, that's moot as he consented to the search.

As far as searching your house goes, that does seem to be a bit overboard unless you consented to that as well. . . or unless the amount of POT was enough for distribution. . .

Have you been charged? Did they find anything in the house? Did he give consent to search the house?

The stop is legal and he gave consent as to the car.
