I stole from a store in a mall in California.
I took a 30 dollar jacket, and they caught me while walking out of the store.
I gave them my info, and they called my parents and also the police.
I also had to sign a paper saying I can never go back to the store, ever.
I also got a paper about a civil fine that I will have to will recieve in a few weeks.
The police came, and he read me my rights, and I had to sign a paper saying that he read me my rights. Then he released me to my parents.

This isn't my first offense though, and I am 17 years old.

When I was 15-16, I stole a laptop from my school.
Long story short, I got 150 community service hours and probation for one year.
It was a felony, and I was put on some program called DEJ (I think) to avoid jail time and stuff.
I barely got off probation around 2 weeks ago, and I went to court and my record was sealed.

So now I'm not sure what is going to happen.
I heard when you are caught stealing again, the 2nd offense is a felony no matter the price.
So if this is true, I'll have 2 felonies on my record.

I am really scared that I may be going to juvenile, what can I expect to happen?

You are facing serious consequences and should start talking to Lawyers. I would also suggest you enroll in an Antishoplifting program before court! This will show Judge your being proactive and remorseful. This could help in reducing your sentence. I recommend the course offered by NASP.

They will take your prior record into consideration when sentencing you for this offense. Were you on probation the date of the offense? If so, you violated your probation and are subject to the penalties of the offense. The court that heard that matter will most likely not be please and impose a harsh sentence.

#1 - get a lawyer to help reduce the consequences of your thefts.
#2 - get help so that you can stop stealing. No one knows why you do it, but you must stop before it ends your chances at being successful in life. No one wants to employ a thief or be friends with someone who steals. It leads down a bad path.

I suspect large fines, massive amounts of community service, civil demand and maybe even some time for this offense.

If you were on DEJ and never served any time in custody, they should not be able to charge you with PC 666 which is the offense for theft with a prior and is generally charged as a felony.

You should consider obtaining the services of a lawyer. Apparently you are not getting the message that stealing is wrong, so do NOT expect a gift like you received the first time. This time you can expect fines and time in custody - and an extensive probation. You are lucky if they are only charging you with petty theft per PC 484/488/490.5. If they are going for burglary per PC459, you could be facing a felony anyway.

Thanks for all your advice everyone.
I was also wondering will I have to go to court?
The police did not give me a citation, nor mention anything about going to court or getting court papers in the mail.

If you are to be charged you will probably be contacted by Juvenile Probation or the District Attorney regarding a hearing date.
