Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft second time, first as minor?

I was just stopped at a department store in WA a couple days ago for "shoplifting".
[The funny thing being it was not my intention, I have been a zombie for pretty much the last 2 weeks dealing with a dying grandparent, divorcing parents, and leaving for basic training in a month].
Anyway, I am 23, I walked out of the store when a friend called me on the phone with merchandise still on me.

My first offense was when I was 14 [that time I actually was shoplifting], and was told that it would be sealed off my record when I turned 18. While sitting in the room with the LP, she was logging something and asked about my first offense and I am confused as to why she knew about it when it should be sealed [thats the first question]?

My other question is, as this is my second offense, what will happen? OR will it count as my first offense since my other was as a minor [second question]? I don't think the first one shows up on my actual record, perhaps it just showed up in some kind of theft database that I keep hearing about?

My concern is that I leave for basic training in a month. I have to have security clearance for my MOS, and am worried that it will get taken away. Will I just have to pay a fine? Or will I have to do community service? What will happen? What is the best way to settle this? Also, is there a difference if you get arrested or not? I was arrested at 14, but no police were involved this time.

1st or 2nd wont matter kiss your clearence goodbye! You need to talk to a Lawyer. Depending on the status of your prior it may be a second offense we cant say but your Lawyer can

Since no police were involved this time, it can be a safe bet that you are fine.

That being said you must disclose this information during the checks for your clearances. It may disqualify you from obtaining the clearance, it may not. They will find out about it, so be up front and honest gives you a better shot of getting it than lying.

Good luck.

Did they say whether they were filing criminal charges or if you would be mailed a court date? One thing for certain you can expect Civil Demand

I am not sure. There was one LP, I was not arrested, the police were not called.

My first offense doesn't show up on my record I don't think, I think its just in some kind of shoplifting database.

I was given a yellow citation that says "city theft" and was told that I would get the paperwork with my fine in the mail. I didn't hear anything about criminal charges, I was only there for about 10 minutes before they let me go.

I think I am just worried about a prior thing on my record for an abusive exbf that ended up with me calling the police, defending myself on the second hit, and then when they got there, he lied and they took me [I guess they always have to take someone]. Will this other thing on my record [even though it is dismissed with prejudice] effect this offense?

If you got a citation you were charged. You should talk to a Lawyer. I will add you were arrested. The arrest was a citizen's arrest done by the store
