My jurisdiction is: Michigan

In the spring of 2008 my fiancé and I took out a major credit card. He is the primary and I the secondary. We are no longer getting married and I would like to leave the relationship, however I am not comfortable leaving while we still have a credit card together. There is a large balance on the card. I admit I have put my fair share of large purchases on the card but from reviewing the statements and my own personal bank statements I have found that I have been the only one paying on the card. When I put all of my purchases together I am finding that I only owe if anything about $2,000.00. The credit card is maxed out at $6,000.00 right now. I feel trapped and I would like to come to a civilized solution but I do not know my rights. I am willing to do whatever it takes, but I want to be taken off the card. What are my options?

1st you need to close it and make sure you get a letter stating the account is closed
2nd in order for you name to be removed from an account he must be able to qualify on his own, and w. the lending trouble and the balance being 6k$ you are more then likely SOL.
3rd If he has not paid anything on thus far, you better be prepared to pay the account yourself, once the account is PIF. Small claims him for the portion that is his—Make sure you have proof.

Hard lesson learned- Don't ever sign your name on a dotted line w. anyone.
