I gave a security deposit and did not obtain a key nor obtained possession of the property and the landlord is refusing to return the deposit, what do I do?

Read the documents you signed as part of the leasing process.
It likely says you forfeit the deposit if you fail the background or credit checks.

Your remedy exists in a small clims court.

But, that's often useless, and ALWAYS frustrating.

You need to provide us with more information than what you posted.

Are you saying you provided a security deposit on a rental unit, changed your mind regarding renting this property and the landlord is now refusing to return this deposit?

If so, did you sign a lease or obtain a verbal agreement to rent this unit? What was the date your provided the deposit versus the date you were to move in?
