Security Issue

Hi,
My landlord is telling me that she is taking 300.00 of our security deposit to purchase 3 new blinds in her home. One is damaged from my cat and we told her we would replace before our final walk through which will be this Sunday. She then went on to say that she has to replace all three because the new one that we buy will not match because in her words" In 11 months we have managed to ruin them and they are discolored" We do not smoke in her house but because we use candles they are ruined. We live in NY and I was wondering if she can take our money for all 3 blinds. We have pictures of the house when we moved in and I also took pictures of the 2 remaining blinds this afternoon. We will also take pics before her final walk through. Thank you for your time.

It's often hard to match just one blind, especially if they are the high end variety.

How about if you offer to replace all three? You're likely to find the same blinds for a lesser price than what your landlord says she will be charging you.

They are the high end variety and that is why we feel we shouldn't have to replace all 3 and they are just a plain white color.

If the blinds are "ruined" by your candles, then why shouldn't you pay?

On the other hand, if you're disputing the fact that they're ruined, get them cleaned.

the blinds that are remaing are in perfect condition, I even took pictures. She used the word ruined when describing them because of candle smoke. We have no problem replacing the one blind that we ruined. Does she have the right to ask us for the total replacement of all the blinds becuase the new one won't be a perfect match of white that she wants? Thanks
