Is it illegal to sell someones personal belongings as well as their Business merchandise if rent is owed?
We had rented a spot at a Flea Market to use for our Business. We left the Flea Market 5 months ago with rent still to be paid. When we had left there was still personal belongings inside of the shed the owner let us use. The owner sold all of our personal belongings that we had stored in that shed. It is not just my belongings but also my son and daughters personal belongings aswell. The value of the contents inside the shed far exceeded the amount of rent due.
Before we left we spoke with the owner and he had told my husband and I that everything inside that shed would be fine until we got the money to pay him. We don't have this agreement in writing.
We are curious to whether or not the amount of belongings sold was legal because of the difference in what was owed and what was sold?
