I got laid off last week and the Separation and Release agreement says upon signing this agreement, the employee will get 8 weeks separation pay at current rate of pay. When I asked my HR, they are not responding to this. Am I legally entitled to get this per this agreement? Should I need to take legal assistance so that I get paid?

Since we have not read your agreement, we do not know if it is legally binding. You will need to show it to an attorney in your state.

Thanks CBG for your reply. Now, the HR says it was a typo in the release agreement. They say separation pay should have said 2 weeks instead of 8 weeks. Is this legal now to say it is a typo? Should I seek legal help?

There is no law prohibiting them from claiming it was a typo, and maybe it actually was. My answer above stands. ONLY an attorney in your state who has read the agreement can say if it is legally binding and/or enforceable. There are limits to what message boards can do and this is beyond them.
