Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication Set Up By Selling Alcohol to a Minor

Ok im not sure what im doing but i at least want to get a reply on if anyone knows what happens...i have a friend that works at a grocery store and he accidently sold alchol to a minor he himself is only 18 yrs old. The 17 yr old male he sold the alcohol to is a friend of my sisters which i had already met before and knew he was a minor. So i was at that grocery store when all this happend i saw that the 17yr old was in line to buy something and i didnt see what he had until it was his turn to pay...wondering what he was doing in a small town grocery store in which he doesnt even live in, i myself didnt say anything to my friend (the cashier) about asking for an id. Well the 17 yr old walked out and then i told my friend, "what did you just do? hes a minor he goes to school with my little sister. hes a senior in highschool!!!!?? " My friend then got freaked out and said ur kidding right?? uh NO! so like three minutes later 3 undercover cops walk in with the 17 year old and automatically my friend knew they got him...by then everything came to me that the 17 year old is part of the Explorer Program and he works for the Cops. Then i figured it was a set up....my friend then told me he had a court date and got a ticket...so i was wondering does anyone know what can happen if an 18yr old sells alcohol to a minor?? Also what happens to the owner of the Store...id: what do they have to pay?? Do they get prohibation?? stuff like that....

You did not say what state you are in but your friend and the store owner are in some trouble. The store owner stands to lose his liquor license, or pay a big fine. He probably will be fired after all of this.

Does your friend have an attorney at all?

If I remember right from my TABC classes (at least here in Texas) your friend would be subject to a fine and/or jail time. The store owner would most likely get a fine. You would need to check your state laws for specifics on sentencing in this case though.

I do know if i was in the store owner's position I would definately fire your friend so do not be surprised if that happens as Duranie said.
