I was just arrested a week ago for shoplifting at a department store. I am 16, but turning 17 in a month. Secret shoppers watched me as I went about the store. I took about twenty dollars worth of items. When I walked out of the store they chased me but I ran. Soon after police came and I stopped running. I was arrested, finger printed, and had my picture taken. I have already received a notice of payment to the department store for $100.00 in order for them not to take me to court. What I am really worried about is if this will be on my adult criminal record? and how it will affect me? and if there is any way to take it off my record? This is my first time being arrested. I am a straight A student and have never done anything to this extent in my life. Please let me know ASAP, if you have any ideas about what could happen to me. Thanks.

If you havent done so yet consult an Attorney, several would be better. Many offer free consultations. Talk to them about your case and desire to keep your record clean.Your record as a minor is just that your record as minor. Once you turn 18 most background searches only look up adult records. Regardless its still in your best interest to seek Diversion or something similar. Ask the Attorneys you meet about this

so then what happens when I have to appear in court and am found guilty, and have to do community service or whatever they want me to do?
