i asked my friend to bring me to store that's going out of business so i could look around while they got food.
for some stupid reason, i decided to buy some items, then take a few others (small amount under $150). there were cameras that probably saw me, but i haven't ever been caught stealing and haven't ever stolen from this chain before. when walking out, alarm went off, i kept walking, employee ran after me and said to come back with stuff because they didn't want to call cops. i kept running. now, i hadn't even told my friend i was doing this-i hadn't planned on doing any of this before-hand, but decided while i was in the store. watched the employee from afar (they stood out front, then went back in store) for a bit, then saw my friend pull back up. they don't know what's going on. i have no cell phone to call them, so i just watch. employee from before comes out and looks around, stands in front of their car and writes tag number down-must've seen me get dropped off in the car. i run out of the area, eventually get back home, and am not accosted by any police. my nerves are shot and i certainly don't find this on a list of things to try again in the future. my question is this. would my friend have any chance of getting in trouble or accosted for this, since their tags are the only real evidence? remember, i didn't get in the car upon leaving and there were no outside cameras, so i'm hoping not, because that would be really unfair, but i don't exactly think going back to store would help situation
