hello all, i shoplifted a pair of $78 shorts from a store a couple of weeks back and i have to go to court tomorrow at 9:30am tomorrow. i was fingerprinted and stayed at a precinct for a few hours. i am really confused as to what is going to take place tomorrow, and i am really worried. what should i expect tomorrow?
 
i'm sorry for triple posting, (i'm sure that's against the rules but i'm new and idk how to edit...) but i was caught on camera stealing the item... can i even plead non-guilty? i really want to get into the division program or ACD.
 
Your triple post is fine. When you appear in court tomorrow plead either not guilty or stand mute. Then either request Public defender or tell Judge you wish your court date postponed so you may seek an Attorney. When you meet with either your Attorney or Public Defender ask him/her if Diversion (or the like) is available in your case.

i really want this thing to just be over with, so should i plead guilty? and where would i request a public defender if i stand mute?
 
Your making same mistake many do. "Wanting it over" If you walk into court tomorrow and plead guilty Judge will sentence you. Now theres a chance Judge might give you diversion (or the like) but there is no guarantee. Your best option in my view is exactly what I already told you. Anything else is a crap shoot. Are you a gambler?
 
okay, so when the judge asks me what to plead, i just stay mute and then request a public defender? i was also caught with a friend, are we going to be trialed together?

"Your Honor I wish to not enter a plea at this time and would like to take this time to request a Public defender" The Judge will instruct you from there

admin, i apologize for being annoying or anything, but they caught me on camera, so is there really a point for me to not plead anything and request a public defender? i am just making sure. this is my first offense EVER and is there some kind of way i can just be very remorseful and regretful over what i did and be let go? also is diversion and ACD the same thing? i'm really scared. :?
 
The point is if you plead guilty Judge will then sentence you. No Diversion, ACD just whatever Judge decides. Dependingon court both Diversion and ACD are basically same thing. Your Attorney will know for sure
 
so i went to court today with my friend and good news, i got a slip saying that my case isn't ready yet and that if i don't get a letter requesting me to go to court, then that means my case is dismissed. hopefully things turn out for the better and i will be able to get this out of my conscience.
