BELTON — A Temple woman was sentenced for her part in what would have been a simple case of shoplifting had there not been a scuffle with a loss prevention officer. Keniece Tanyell Alcorn, 25, of Temple, was indicted on a robbery charge July 22.
According to an arrest affidavit, police were dispatched to Macy's in Temple on June 1 in reference to a loss prevention officer fighting with a female shoplifting suspect.
When police arrived, they were met with the loss prevention manager, who said video footage showed a suspect later identified as Alcorn "selecting several pieces of children's clothing and concealing them in a large bag she had on her person," the affidavit said.
The loss prevention personnel told police that when they tried to stop Alcorn, a struggle ensued and Alcorn ran before she "passed some of the merchandise off to another individual," before Alcorn was detained, according to the affidavit.
The struggle during Alcorn's detention left at least one loss prevention officer with "injuries including cuts, scrapes, a bite on his hand as well as possible broken ribs," the affidavit said.
On Monday, Alcorn pleaded guilty in Judge Fancy Jezek's 426th District Court to the robbery and was sentenced to seven years' probation and a $1,000 fine. Alcorn also must pay $5,417 in restitution to Macy's for injuring the loss prevention officer.
