Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Shopliftin in CA and case dismissal

If an adult (age > 20 years) accussed of petty theft PC 484(a) no priors,amount involved is $500 but case is filed,Does it mean that the person is convicted?

and if defendant pleads 'not guilty' but as the conditional dismissal performs some community service then is he considered to be convicted in the case and the charges will appear on their records?

What can be done in a Shoplifting case (PC 484(a)) in state of California with a Conditional dismissal to have it dismissed with 'No-Conviction' ?

Will it appear in any background checks related to Employment, Immigration, etc?

Is there any particular kind of Community service that one has to do and any fixed number of hours or it's all subjective and can be mutually decided between prosecutor and defending attorney?

Any conviction will appear of any background check. Now if the subject was part of a Diversion program or the like the case is likely dismissed after successful completion of program. Since we do not know the condition of the case your asking we cannot say
