Hi,
I was caught shoplifting at Store name on 5/30/2010. I have a court date for 6/30/2010 and have already paid my civil fine and restatution (?) through the Store name LP office. I was wondering if there is a way to obtain a civil compromise. I have absolutely no funds to hire an attorney and will be doing this on my own. Will I have to plead guilty and get a civil defender in order to accomplish this? I have my receipt from FM that I paid in full 1 week after I got the letter outlining what I owed. I am so ashamed that I did this and it is totally out of a character for me, I just want to make this right.

I forgot to add that this is the first time I have ever been in trouble. I have never had a speeding ticket and I am 24 years old!! Hopefully that I have stayed out of trouble will help me, right?

Trying to deal with this without the help of an Attorney would be your second mistake. Many Attorneys offer free consultations get as many as you can. Ask them about diversion as plea option. then if you cannot afford any of them you will have knowledge you can take when you ask for public defender
