Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft shoplifting at kohls first offense

I was caught shoplifting at kohls and was told I would be summoned to court and that the company would be sending me a civil demand and it would determine how much I needed to pay. that I would be sued by kohls. this was my first shoplifting offense, the cops were called because it was a total of $208.

what kind of fees should I expect?
what about legal charges?
should I plea guilty or not guilty?
should I use a public offender?

court fines less than $500.00 Civil fines anywhere from $400.00 to $1000.00 depending on state law
